Agility Description & Requirements
Course length: 8 weeks
DTCCU offers a series of agility courses that start with foundation skills and continue through to competition-level courses. Each level of agility is offered every other session; most students will start with Agility Prep and work through to Competition Agility in
consecutive sessions. Dogs will be enrolled at the appropriate level, determined by current/previous instructor(s).
Please note that only one dog per handler per class is allowed, and a dog may only be enrolled in one DTCCU agility course each session.
Dogs will be on lead except when working. Students are expected to help with equipment before and/or after class; some crates are available at the club or you may bring your own.
Drop-ins are only by permission of the instructor; requests to drop-in must be made in advance and paid for at the time of the drop-in. $10/drop-in.

Agility Prepardness
Prerequisite: Sub-novice Obedience (or comparable course at another club, with approval).
Maximum class size: 8 dogs.
In this agility foundations course, you will begin to build a positive working relationship with your dog that will make you an effective team. You and your dog will learn about targeting, handling on the flat, contact performance, and motivation, and you be introduced to beginning agility equipment. Dogs need to have a reasonable sit, stay, and recall and be able to work around other dogs. This course is for dogs that have not taken an agility course.

Prerequisite: Approval of Agility Prep instructor (or comparable course at another club, with approval).
Maximum class size: 8 dogs.
Agility 1 teaches basic obstacle performance & handling skills and communication between dog and handler. Dogs need to have a good sit, stay, and recall and must be able to work off-lead around other dogs.

Agility 2
Prerequisite: Approval of Agility 1 instructor (or a comparable course at another club, with approval).
Maximum class size: 10 dogs.
Agility 2 is for dogs who have mastered Agility 1, are comfortable on most obstacles, and can work off-lead around other dogs. This course concentrates on perfecting obstacle performance, increasing handling skills, and sequencing.

Agility 3
Prerequisites: Approval of Agility 2 instructor (or a comparable course at another club, with approval) OR Dog has legs towards an agility title in a course that includes the teeter, dogwalk, a-frame, and weaves. Instructor approval may still be required.
Maximum class size: 10 dogs.
This course builds on work done in Agility 2. Advanced handling skills, speed, distance, and longer sequences are emphasized.

Agility 4
Prerequisites: Approval of Agility 3 instructor (or a comparable course at another club, with approval) OR Dog has legs towards an agility title in a course that includes the teeter, dogwalk, a-frame, and weaves. Instructor approval may still be required.
Maximum class size: 10 dogs.
Agility 4 is for teams who are preparing for matches. Dogs should be able to perform all contact obstacles at full height and be able to work comfortably with distractions.

Advanced Agility
Prerequisites: Approval of Agility 4 instructor OR Dog has legs towards an agility title in a course that includes the teeter, dogwalk, a-frame, and weaves. Instructor approval may still be required.
Maximum class size: 10 dogs.
Teams in Advanced Agility are preparing to trial. Dogs must be skilled on all obstacles and able to run full courses.
Maximum class size: 10 dogs.

Competition Agility
Prerequisites: Dog is competing or has completed the Advanced Agility course with instructor approval.
Maximum class size: 10; if larger, the class may be split into 2 groups that
will alternate weeks.
Course fee & length: TBD by class size.
Competition Agility is for teams who are competing in agility or ready to compete. Class members take turns being responsible for presenting a course or exercise to the class (for example: courses or parts of courses you've run but couldn't conquer, exercises from Clean Run or other publications, etc.). The members of the class work as a group to figure out handling strategies, help each other work through challenges, etc. From time to time the club may bring in guest instructors. [Note: Drop-ins when a guest instructor is leading the class are not allowed, though people may audit with permission of the class leader & guest instructor]. If students in Competition class are not able to attend a particular class meeting, they are encouraged to let the class leader know as far in advance as is possible and the leader will contact people on the wait-list to see if they would like to attend, rotating through the wait-list throughout the session. If the class is split into 2 groups, handlers with 2 dogs at this level may have 1 dog in each group.
